THEN CHECK THE ACTUAL VEHICLE

Your next three steps.

  1. Check the official records

Use NCTS for NCT validity, Check My Vehicle and the appropriate motor tax services. Read the result and scope on each official site.

  2. Investigate recorded history

For finance, recorded damage and mileage, compare licensed providers and package coverage. CarReport.ie does not yet sell these reports.

    What a report should cover
  3. Match the documents. Inspect the car.

Resolve identity questions and have an independent professional assess the physical vehicle before paying.

A little more about number plates.

What is the difference between 181 and 182?

181 indicates first registration in January–June 2018; 182 indicates July–December 2018 in the standard Irish format.

Can a number plate tell me whether a car was imported?

Not by itself. A plate’s year prefix can reflect first registration abroad. Use documents and the relevant history records to investigate imports.
